Working from Home (WFH) seems to be trending with half of the world facing lockdown due to the spread of COVID-19. Experts suggest that this trend is likely to continue and will be encouraged until vaccination is available. WFH can be exciting at first but it can lead to lack of motivation and distractions as time passes. Bracing WFH and making it alluring is an added task and creating the right environment can help stay motivated, focused and productive. Here are some tips to help you create the right WFH environment within any room:
- Designate an Area- Choose a spot in your home where you can comfortably sit for long hours without distractions. The temperature should be right, you should have a comfortable seating position with no strain on the back or neck, power plugs nearby for your laptop and adequate light. This area should be functional and you should be able to work here every day.
- Organise the workspace- Once you have chosen the area, it can really help you boost your mood and productivity to organise the workplace. The first step should be to declutter the space and keep only essentials nearby. Place those pens in a mug and get a tray to keep papers. This can also help lower anxiety. Next step should be to personalise the space with motivating quotes, pictures of your family members, plants or flowers, goals and task list.
- Check the backdrop– WFH required a lot of online communication with your teammates and if you are going to be on a video call, it is best to check the backdrop of your designated area. Clear the space behind your work area, make sure the place has ample light and if you have the enthusiasm, you can even choose to make it interesting with plants, paintings or flowers.
- Mood setting- With only virtual colleagues, the mood and culture of the office will certainly be lacking at home. While you can’t recreate that, you can always bring in other elements to boost your mood. You can play some soft music if not on a call or light up a scented candle to uplift your spirits. Keep some healthy snacks and a jar of flavoured water nearby to avoid going to the kitchen multiple times.
